If there’s a list of things I’m known for, my love for coffee is definitely one of them. There really is some kind of wonder to finding your new fav cafe and sipping on the perfect cup with a vibe that is just right. In creating this list of the most beautifully designed, freshly baked and brewed Edmonton coffee shops, I hope to help you do just that!

First we drink the coffee, then we do the things.
WHYTE AVENUE AREA COFFEE SHOPS
1. DA CAPO ⨯ 8135 102 STREET
Brightening up the corner lot of the Roots on Whyte heritage building sits this delightful little Italian cafe, Da Capo. If you’re lucky to visit on one of our sunny days, their patio is perched on the perfect corner for people watching.
Although their incredibly delish coffee and freshly pressed orange juice are enough to warrant a (long)visit of their own, you just can’t leave without trying a bowl of the adjoining bistro’s feature soup. Served with a side of warmed mini cheddar jalapeno scones, a different flavour is crafted each day.
2. THE HEXAGON BOARD GAME CAFE ⨯ 10750 82 AVE
Centrally located on Whyte Avenue, this weekend hot spot is the perfect way to spend an evening. Enjoy unlimited access to their massive library of games for $2.50/hour in a bright and modern space with delicious food and bevvies.
The Calgary-roasted Fratello beans served here really are all of my coffee dreams come true and their candy shoppe style sweets are adorably served up for sharing in family style bowls.
If you’re more of the cats-not-dogs and the tea-not-coffee type, they also froth up tea-based lattes in matcha, roobois, and if you’re feeling adventurous, beet root or turmeric. Looking for even more? Their selection of local microbrews are both unique and impressive.
3. TRANSCEND CAFE & ROASTERY ⨯ 9570 76 AVE
If the Ritchie Market, just south of Whyte Avenue, isn’t the definition of DIY, then I don’t know what it is. Home to Transcend, the cafe that roasts it’s own beans, Biera, the restaurant that brews it’s own beer, and Acme Meat Market, the neighborhood butcher you’ve got to visit at least once.
If there’s one drink you’ve got to try from this hipster-esque Edmonton coffee shop, it’s their dirty chai — a chai latte with a shot of espresso.
4. THE HOLY ROLLER ⨯ 8222 GATEWAY BOULEVARD
Located just steps from Old Strathcona’s farmer’s market, this Great Gatsby inspired cafe-restaurant-lounge is the perfect little spot to pop into after your Saturday morning produce haul. Their cups are filled with Edmonton’s Ace Roasters brew, and they offer a full line-up of coffee based drinks in a uniquely designed space. If you’ve worked up an appetite, their Detroit-style deep dish pizza has won a list of awards and their cocktail list is 5 star.
5. CAFE LEVA ⨯ 11053 86 AVE
A street over from the university, hidden amongst rows of old character homes, this Italian style cafe welcomes you in. The go-to purveyor or all things caffeinated to students and professors alike, the charm of their cafeteria-style seating and tall, airy windows is second only to their Neopolitan style pizzas.
6. THE WOODRACK CAFE ⨯ 7602 109 STREET
Warm, woodsy tones fill this boho-chic cafe to give it a rustic charm of it’s own. If you’re looking for a cozy spot to study or catch up with a girlfriend, this is it.
7. ACE COFFEE ROASTERS ⨯ 10055 80 AVE
A new addition to the Edmonton coffee shop scene, is this industrial-chic style roastery. The interior is a delicious combination of gorgeous marble, concrete and raw wood and makes for a seriously Instagram-worthy backdrop. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8-4 pm for all your caffeine needs.
8. WILD EARTH BAKERY ⨯ 8902 99 STREET
The rustic wood-burning fireplace, house-made chili and selection of loose leaf teas all make for a seriously cozy cafe. To try their famous raspberry white chocolate scones fresh out of the oven, be sure to get there early! (Yes, they do sell out every day.)
8. LA BOULE PATISSERIE & BAKERY ⨯ 8020 101 STREET
Lining the shelves of this luxurious Whyte Avenue cafe is a delicate selection of beautifully decorated fine French pastries. From the gorgeous touches of flaked gold leaf, to the perfectly piped clouds of pastry cream, it’s all about the details.
Cheesecake lovers: head over, STAT. Their Vanilla Bean Sour Cherry Cheesecake has your name on it. Not your style? The Passionfruit Eclair and Lady Grey Sugar Cookies are both amazing, too.
If you’re looking to soak up some sun, La Boule also offers outdoor seating.
DOWNTOWN EDMONTON COFFEE SHOPS
9. DISTRICT CAFE ⨯ 10011 109 STREET
If a beautiful cocktail bar and super trendy cafe wedded in holy matrimony, this would be it.
While this list is all about Edmonton coffee shops — their espresso is excellent and their chocolate orange scones give Wild Earth a run for it’s money — I just have to tell you about their cocktails. They are too good.
District’s Gin & Tonic modernizes the classic cocktail with an Earl Grey syrup and note of nutmeg and their Rattlesnake (whiskey sour) features star anise.Open until 11 on Friday and Saturday nights, don’t miss this one.
10. COFFEE BUREAU ⨯ 10505 JASPER AVE
Local couple Kris and Peter are busy slinging Ace Roastery’s perfectly balanced beans in this small but bold corner cafe. Plan to add this one to your schedule on a sunny day so you can enjoy the outdoor seating lined up in front of the cafe, perfect for lunch rush people watching.
11. LOCK STOCK COFFEE ⨯ 10534 JASPER AVE
If any cafe on this list is nestled, it’s this one. Tucked under a zag of stairs just west of 105 and Jasper, this wondrous Edmonton coffee shop is the perfect spot to sit, read, write or chat for hours.
The coffee is A+ but most noteworthy are their english muffins. The english muffins for their gourmet, all day breakfast sandwiches are baked from scratch in house. Yes, from scratch. Yes, in house. Perfect cheddar and herb scones showcase fresh dill, rosemary and scallions and their heavenly layers flake perfectly with each bite.
Don’t walk, run.
12. MONUMENT COFFEE BAR ⨯ 10803 JASPER AVE
And the award for the most creamy, dreamy micro-foam goes toooo… why yes indeed, it is Monument. Their shelves are lined with farmer’s market famous Moonshine glazed donuts and super soft sandwich cookies, so have a salad for lunch.
13. CREDO ⨯ 10162 – 101A STREET
This cafe may simply be the most Instagram-worthy caffeine stop in all of Edmonton. Rebuilt in the historic old-but-new Kelly Ramsey building that was sadly lost in a 2009 blaze, it’s tall, airy ceilings, gorgeous gold light fixtures and concrete details are the perfect back drop to sip on a cuppa.
Bonus: I can’t tell you about the incomprehensibly delicious breakfast spot that’s about to open in the same building, but if you *sign up newsletter* Promise. It’s unreal.
14. BRU COFFEE + BEER HOUSE ⨯ 11965 JASPER AVE
Once other Edmonton coffee shops have already turned off the lights, the show goes on for this open-late cafe. Pop in for a Saturday night and enjoy one of their live music shows — but check their schedule in advance to try and catch my acoustic act, Mike Dominey. (Listen to his cover of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect here).
Besides the live entertainment, they also offer a total coffee aficionado experience. Their signature menu item (and Tyler’s go-to), the Little Buddy, is a tasting flight that includes a shot of espresso, a macchiato and a side of sparkling water. For a more indulgent experience, try their Affogato — deliciously rich espresso poured over a scoop of salted caramel gelato from Pinocchio Ice Cream.
15. DUCHESS BAKE SHOP ⨯ 10718 124 STREET
You don’t have to be one of the many new mamas or young stylish babes that meet for mid-morning coffee dates to pop in to Duchess. You just have to be a lover of all things wonderful and delicious.
At the crack of dawn each morning, baby angels clock in to create the most heavenly collection of authentic French macarons, gateaus, and tarts. Well that, or a band of classically trained French pastry chefs.
Their cafe serves Bulldog espresso, a blend customized by Vancouver’s Matchstick Coffee; the perfectly smooth cup.
Bonus: For the perfect date idea or girl’s night out, become a baby angel yourself! Their baking classes are hosted regularly but sell out in the blink of an eye, so join their e-mail list to stay in the loop.
SOUTH EDMONTON COFFEE SHOPS
16. BROWN BUTTER CAFE ⨯ 1528 91 STREET
Pouring fresh joe, roasted in Calgary by Phil & Sebastian, Brown Butter Cafe is a block from Edmonton’s Mosaic Centre and Workshop Eatery.
This adorbs and super trendy neighbourhood cafe has a secret recipe, and they won’t share it with you.
Heena and Michael Mak, chefs and cafe owners, serve up their signature oh-so-slightly sweetened Asian-style buns Monday to Friday, 9-5. If you’re looking for a sweet treat, try our faves, their strawberry cheesecake filled or warm apple pie bun.
NORTH EDMONTON COFFEE SHOPS
17. LITTLE BRICK CAFE ⨯ 10004 90 STREET
Have you ever wished there were a quaint brick house, nestled north of the river, that would serve up a cup of caffeinated delight? Wouldn’t it be even more blissful if there were a cozy fire pit you could relax around?
Well dream on, girlfriend, because there is.
Be sure to check out the Little Brick General Store while you’re there. A curated collection of small batch bitters, cordials and cookbooks make the perfect gift for the bon-vivant in your life.
18. THE MOTH CAFE ⨯ 9449 JASPER AVENUE
While Edmonton isn’t exactly as veg-friendly as Toronto or LA, The Moth Cafe is the city’s new exception. Featuring an entirely vegan menu, a kombucha bar (with flavours like root beer and vanilla chai), and a page-long tea latte list that’s available with coconut, almond or cashew milk, this cafe is plant-lovers paradise.
